Reds On Verge Of Landing Choo

The Reds are on the verge of a blockbuster trade with the Cleveland Indians that would bring outfielder Shin-soo Choo and utility infielder Jason Donald to Cincinnati in exchange for CF Drew Stubbs and shortstop prospect Didi Gregorius.

Choo will be a free agent after the 2013 season and will make roughly $7.5 million via arbitration this coming season. So, it’s a one-year rental for the Reds until prized prospect Billy Hamilton is ready to take over as the leadoff hitter and centerfielder in 2014.

That’s right, even though Choo has been strictly a RF since briefly playing some CF in 2009, the Reds are bringing him to Cincinnati to play center and fill the leadoff hitter void.

I like this deal very much. Stubbs is worthless in my book. It hurts to give up Gregorius, but the Reds believe Zack Cozart is the long-term answer at SS and I can live with that.

I’ll update this when the deal is official, but right now it looks like a good day for the Reds.
